Ideation Labs

Early on in the process of designing this grant, we realized that one way Christian faith communities can break out of the cycle of missing their young adults is by helping them to rediscover the innovative edge that at times very much characterized the historical church. To that end, we sought the help of Astha Parmar of Inspri.co. More about Astha’s impressive resume can be found here

Astha helped us wade into the world of Design Thinking, choose a base platform of the many available process models (we decided to base our model on the ideo.org approach) and helped us to build out a custom process for our churches. We then tested it and held two additional Labs to cement as much of the process as possible so that the Pivot NW team could continue to offer this service to our partner churches and encourage innovate ministry to and with young adults.

Once our process is fully developed we will be sharing it (or, at least the parts we develop as original content) as part of our open-source process. Stay tuned! In the meantime, take a look at some of our past events and read through this web page that we employ to immerse our participants in the issues before the event.

June 16th Ideation Lab

On the Saturday morning of June 16th, Pivot NW hosted an Ideation Lab at SPU with Renew Covenant Church from Lynnwood, WA and Lake Sammamish Foursquare from Bellevue, WA in attendance. As our team was continuing to learn how to host these labs, our contractor Astha Parmar also helped us by modeling leadership in implementing our customized Ideation Process.

April 22nd Ideation Lab

On Sunday afternoon, April 22nd, we held our first Ideation Lab. Our host was Lake Burien Presbyterian Church who also attended as a team. Teams from Rainier Avenue Church from the Rainer Valley in Seattle and Silverdale United Methodist Church who came over the Sound from the Kitsap Penninsula also stretched their innovation muscles. The lab was lead by Astha Parmar of Inspri.co, the co-author of our custom ideation process to help churches innovate in the area of ministry for and with young adults.
